Today in Hebrews, Dr. Bibza switched from teaching mode to preaching mode. I love it when he does that. My thoughts below are not original…
“Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death–that is, the devil– and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.” – Hebrews 2:14-15
We are young college students, so most of us don’t fear death. But if the fear of death is the worst fear, and Jesus came to conquer that, why do we let other fears get us? These fears are not Biblical.
Bibza gave really personal points of application:
– Fear of man, fear of rejection- we make excuses for not witnessing. “He might not like what I have to say” or “I may offend him.”
Where is our love? Do we let our fear get in the way of the gospel message going forth?
– Fear of trying things that are new and obeying God- we make excuses for not going on that missions trip or into a certain occupation. “I’m not prepared.”
We are like Moses at the burning bush, ready to give all our excuses. In reality, God can use us.
– Fear of failure – we take classes that are easier and worry about our GPAs.
– Fear of not getting married – we may panic as friends around us get matched.
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” – 1 John 4:18
Fear not! God is in control!
